Dr. Sidney B. Eisig Appointed Chief Of Dental Service And Director Of Division Of Oral And Maxillofacial Surgery At Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center

New York, NY (June 2001) -- Dr. Sidney B. Eisig has been appointed director of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and chief of the dental service at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, announced Dr. Allan J. Formicola, dean of the Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery, and Dr. Herbert Pardes, president and chief executive officer of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. At the school, Dr. Eisig will be the William A. Carr Professor of Clinical Dentistry. Dean Formicola commented, “Sid Eisig will continue Columbia’s strong role in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery and provide excellent leadership for the four hospital-based Columbia Presbyterian dental residency programs of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.” Before his appointment, Dr. Eisig was associate professor in the Department of Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center, where he was a member of the craniofacial and skull base surgery team. Dr. Eisig earned his B.S. degree from the State University of New York at Albany in 1976 and his D.D.S. from New York University in 1980. He completed an internship at the Long Island College Hospital in 1980-82 and an oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center in 1982-85. He also completed a fellowship in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Maryland Hospital and the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services System in Baltimore from 1985 to 1986. Dr. Eisig is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the American Cleft Palate/Craniofacial Association. He has authored more than 20 articles in peer-reviewed journals and has co-authored six book chapters. Dr. Eisig succeeds Dr. Steven M. Roser, who, after serving in the position for 20 years, was promoted to director of graduate medical education for NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
