Joshua R. Sonett, Md, Appointed Surgical Director Of Lung Transplantation At Newyork-Presbyterian Hospital

New York, NY (February 2002) -- Joshua R. Sonett, MD, has joined the section of General Thoracic Surgery in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. He is the surgical director of the Lung Transplant Program at the Medical Center and assistant professor of clinical surgery at Columbia University. Dr. Sonett comes to Columbia Presbyterian from the University of Maryland in Baltimore, where he was associate professor of surgery, director of the Lung Transplantation Program, and co-director of the Photodynamic Therapy Treatment Center. He also was chief of Thoracic Surgery at Baltimore Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center. Dr. Sonett’s skills will expand the capabilities of NewYork-Presbyterian’s Thoracic Surgery programs and offer patients a variety of options in minimal access and other innovative procedures. Dr. Kenneth Steinglass, director of general thoracic surgery at the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and clinical professor of surgery at Columbia University has announced, “We are very pleased that Joshua Sonnett has joined our experienced team. He further strengthens our leadership position in minimally invasive chest surgery, thoracic oncology and lung transplantation.” A graduate of Duke University, Dr. Sonett earned an M.D. degree at East Carolina University and completed his Thoracic Surgical Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, where his interests in lung transplantation and thoracic oncology were nurtured. He completed a residency in general surgery at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, the National Board of Medical Examiners, and the American Board of Surgery, and a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
