of Dental and Craniofacial Research,

National Institutes of Health

Dr. Kleinman will highlight findings from the Surgeon General’s Report

on Oral Health that will have an

impact on the practice, education, research, and health care of the profession

of dentistry.

The Future of Dentistry: Findings and Implications, 10 a.m.

L. Jackson Brown, D.D.S., Ph.D.; Associate Executive Director, Health

Policy Resources Center, American Dental

Association

Dr. Brown will discuss major trends and findings from the ADA’s “Future

of Dentistry Report,” with a

focus on dental practice, dental workforce, access to care, and the financing

of dental services.

Conducting and Putting Science into Practice: The Future of Oral Health

Research, 11 a.m.

Lawrence A. Tabak, D.D.S., M.S.; Director, National Institute of Dental

and Craniofacial Research,

National Institutes of Health

Dr. Tabak will explore why oral health research is necessary and the critical

roles that schools of dentistry

must play in furthering it. He also will address the importance of

training opportunities for those interested

in careers in oral health.

The Future of Dental Practice, 1:30 p.m.

S. Timothy Rose, D.D.S. M.S.; Past President, American Dental Association

and the American Academy

of Periodontology

Dr. Rose will present an overview of dental practice in 2020, including

the influence of changing disease

patterns, information technology, workforce issues, access to care, and

the relationship of oral and

systemic disease.

A New Format for Dental Education, 2:10 p.m.

Allan J, Formicola, D.D.S.; Vice Dean for Community Health Partnership,

Columbia Faculty of Health

Sciences, Professor of Dentistry, School of Dental and Oral Surgery, Columbia

University

Dr. Formicola will explore the role dental education could take in maintaining

the profession’s role as a

strong partner to medicine in caring for public health.

Looking Outward at the Future of Dentistry: Dentistry in the Health Care

System, 2:50 p.m.

Burton L. Edelstein, D.D.S., M.P.H.; Associate Professor of Clinical Dentistry

and Clinical Public Health;

Director, Division of Community Health, School of Dental and Oral Surgery,

Columbia University

Dr. Edelstein will discuss how the social, cultural, philosophical, and

political themes – including equity,

health vs. healthcare, and access to healthcare – shape healthcare in the

United States.
