COLUMBIA PRESBYTERIAN MEDICAL CENTER CELEBRATES FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF CELIAC DISEASE CENTER AT SOHO GALLERY BENEFIT Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch to be Guest of Honor WHO: Former New York Mayor Ed Koch; Dr. Peter Green, clinical professor of medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons and director of the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital

WHERE: Agora Gallery 415 West Broadway SoHo, New York City

WHAT: Columbia University’s Celiac Disease Center will celebrate its first anniversary. Mayor Koch will be the guest of honor; Dr. Green will speak about the center’s work in celiac disease research, education, and patient care.

Celiac disease damages the small intestine and interferes with absorption of nutrients from food. Serious consequences can ensue, including malnutrition, delayed growth, behavioral changes, pain, and failure to thrive. The center aims to raise awareness and improve treatment of this crippling disease, which affects an estimated one in 175 Americans.
