Columbia University School Of Dental & Oral Surgery Faculty And Students Honored

New York, NY, November 10, 2005, – Several faculty members and students from the Columbia University School of Dental & Oral Surgery (SDOS) have recently been honored as leaders in their fields.

Faculty Honors

SDOS faculty members Joseph McManus, DDS, Ron Myers, DDS, Murray Schwartz, DDS, Steven Syrop, DDS, and Daniel Zedeker, DDS, have been inducted into the American College of Dentists (ACD). The ACD is a nonprofit professional organization of dentists who have exemplified excellence through outstanding leadership and exceptional contributions to dentistry and society. The mission of the ACD is to promote excellence, ethics, professionalism, and leadership in dentistry.

Regina Landesberg, DMD, Ph.D., associate professor of oral surgery, will be honored by the New York State Dental Foundation on Nov. 18 by for Excellence in Academics and Research.

Student & Alumni Honors

Dr. Richard Yang, SDOS Class 1997, was inaugurated as the new president of the Chinese American Dental Association at the organization’s annual session on Sunday, October 23 at Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel, Flushing, Queens, New York.

Mark Liu, resident in pediatric dentistry at Columbia University School of Dental & Oral Surgery has been selected for the "Kellogg Fellowship for Emerging Leaders in Public Health". He was selected from over 300 applicants. It is a 9 month fellowship that will be conducted at the North Carolina Institute for Public Health in Chapel Hill. Mark is also simultaneously getting his MPH as well.

Alia Koch, SDOS Class of 2005, received the American Association of Women Dentist’s 2005 Colgate Scholarship Award.

Ali Asgari, SDOS Class of 2005, the student editor for the Columbia Dental Review, accepted the Lawrence Meskin Award (named for a past editor of the Journal of the American Dental Association) during the American Dental Association Annual Session in Philadelphia.
