CUMC Names Lisa Hogarty As New Chief Operating Officer
NEW YORK, Oct. 9, 2007 – Health care and academic administrative leader Lisa Hogarty will join Columbia University Medical Center in December as its chief operating officer. Hogarty has been executive vice president for student and administrative services at Columbia University for the past five years.
In her new role at the medical center, Hogarty will work alongside Lee Goldman, M.D., executive vice president of Columbia University and dean of the faculties of health sciences and medicine at CUMC, to lead medical center operations, including interactions with CUMC’s four health science schools.
Hogarty will begin her position Dec. 1.
Columbia University Medical Center, with its four schools, boasts 2,172 full-time faculty, and an annual operating budget of $1.5 billion, as well as $569 million in sponsored research grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), other government agencies, and individual foundations.
In her five years at Columbia, Hogarty has been credited with building strong management teams and reorganizing core organizational functions such as human resources and information technology for academic and administrative applications. Among the new technologies that she has spearheaded is an electronic medical record system for the student health service that has reduced wait times by half.
“Lisa has been a driving force in overseeing critical areas of university operations,” Dr. Goldman said. “The breadth of her expertise and experience in both health care and academia, coupled with her knowledge of our community, will be invaluable to CUMC as we move forward with key initiatives.”
Before joining Columbia, Hogarty spent nine years in executive positions at Continuum Health Partners and Mount Sinai Medical Center. She served as corporate vice president for facility operations and hospital support services for Continuum’s Beth Israel and St. Luke’s-Roosevelt hospitals. At Continuum, she had oversight for facilities, construction, engineering, biomedical engineering and support services at all five of the network’s acute care hospitals. At Mount Sinai, she was assistant hospital director and oversaw all support service units for the hospital and medical school departments.

A 1981 graduate of Colby-Sawyer College in New London, N.H., Hogarty also holds a master of science degree from New York University.
