New York magazine’s Best Doctors list 2014.

Congratulations to the ColumbiaDoctors physicians who were voted New York magazine Best Doctors of 2014, the annual peer-nominated list of the New York metro area’s best doctors.

A total of 123 ColumbiaDoctors physicians were on New York magazine’s 2014 list, up from 109 in 2013, an increase of 13 percent. Fully 55 specialties were on the 2014 list, up from 51 in 2013. ColumbiaDoctors physicans represented 9.8 percent of the 1,251 practitioners on the 2014 list, a slight increase from 9.1 percent of the 1,198 doctors on the 2013 list. Our physicians topped the list in neurological surgery, as well as in thoracic and cardiac surgery.

“The increased number of doctors named to the list is a testament to the continually rising quality of care provided by ColumbiaDoctors,” said Dr. Louis Bigliani, the faculty practice’s president and chair of the board. “We take great pride in these doctors, who have been nominated by their peers as among the best in  New York, a very competitive landscape.”

In addition, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital ranks among the top in the nation for children’s care in the following specialties: cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery, neonatology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, and pulmonology. NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital ranked in more pediatric specialties than any other New York metro area hospital in U.S.News & World Report’s “Best Children’s Hospitals” for 2014–2015. The findings were published earlier this month.

We urge you to nominate your ColumbiaDoctors peers for the 2015 list, to ensure that the public is aware of the exceptional level of care we provide. Nominate physicians whom you would recommend to a family member—not only because of their excellent training and clinical skills, but also because of the time, care, and concern they give their patients. Voting instructions are provided here. ColumbiaDoctors is happy to assist departments with training and background information on the voting process. Contact faculty liaison and patient access manager Kristin O’Meara for details.

New York City research and information company Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. publishes an annual guidebook titled “Top Doctors: New York Metro Area,” which lists those whom Castle Connolly has determined to be in the top 10 percent of the region’s physicians—nearly 6,488 in all.

For the past 17 years, Castle Connolly has been providing New York magazine with a shorter version of this list for the magazine’s Best Doctors issue. Space prohibits New York from publishing the full list of 1,251 in 2014. Read more about the survey’s methodology.
