CoSMO Students Race to Support Their Clinical Work

In October, 11 College of Physicians and Surgeons students ran theStaten Island Half Marathon with a purpose far greater than personal fitness. They were running to raise funds for the Columbia Student Medical Outreach (CoSMO) Clinic, which offers free primary care to uninsured patients.

As a team, the student-runners brought in more than $2,000, and adding to their sense of accomplishment, all crossed the finish line in approximately two hours or less, many of them in their first race of this distance.

"It was an adventure to travel all the way to Staten Island in support of a cause we are all so passionate about," said Alexandra Bercow, a member of the Class of 2017.
