Dr. Paul N. Casale has been appointed executive director of NewYork Quality Care, the Accountable Care Organization (ACO) of NewYork-Presbyterian, Columbia and Weill Cornell Medicine. He joins the ACO from Lancaster General Health/Penn Medicine, where he served as chief of the Division of Cardiology and medical director of quality.

“We are very excited to welcome Dr. Casale to lead our ACO,” says David Alge, senior vice president of community and population health at NewYork-Presbyterian. “His dedication to the improvement of healthcare quality and safety as well as his longtime research in the advancements of interventional cardiology will contribute to the hospital’s exemplary patient care efforts. His vision for wiser spending and improving the integration of prevention and wellness is perfectly aligned with NewYork Quality Care’s initiatives on providing the best possible patient care.”

“Our focus on increasing the quality of care for our patients in the community is not new at ColumbiaDoctors. We believe that our participation in this ACO will greatly enhance our already robust efforts to take care of all New Yorkers,” said Dr. George A. “Jack” Cioffi, president of the faculty practice, ophthalmologist-in-chief at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center and chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC).

“As physicians, there is nothing more important to us than providing the very best, compassionate care at the greatest value to our patients. That is at the heart of NewYork Quality Care’s mission,” says Dr. Michael G. Stewart, vice dean, senior associate dean of clinical affairs, and chairman of otolaryngology – head and neck surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine, and otolaryngologist-in-chief at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell. “There is no one better suited to realize that mission than Dr. Casale, an accomplished physician and leader who has a wealth of experience in population health and high-quality, coordinated care. We are thrilled to welcome him to NewYork Quality Care.”

With more than 30 years of experience serving communities on a local, state and national level, Dr. Casale is a national leader in the development of high-quality population health programs. For the past two decades, he has been intensely involved in refining quality improvement initiatives and promoting the use of publicly reported healthcare data. He brings a wealth of population health knowledge to NewYork Quality Care and will focus on providing high-quality, coordinated care to patients, while helping to lower overall healthcare costs.

“Putting patients first is always the top priority in healthcare, and I am delighted to be joining three world-class institutions committed to providing the highest quality care for patients,” Dr. Casale says. “I am looking forward to further advancing NewYork Quality Care and leading the expansion of value-based payment models across the institutions.”

Dr. Casale graduated from Tufts University in 1978 and received his medical degree at Weill Cornell Medical College. He completed his internal medicine residency at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center (then New York Hospital-Cornell University Medical Center) and his fellowship in cardiology at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
