Columbia has heart–and the month of February will be filled with special events to celebrate American Heart Association’s Heart Month. You won’t want to miss the many festivities we have planned at Columbia.
We’re kicking off the festivities with a National Wear Red Day gathering on the Riverview Terrace of the Vivian and Seymour Milstein Family Heart Center. Wear red and join in a group photo to support women in the fight against heart disease. Come participate in the Second Annual Indoor Milstein Mile walk, where you can not only clock your 30 minutes of exercise for the day, but also enter a raffle to win an Apple watch.
The Milstein Family Heart Center will host a heart health screening fair. Just a few of the options available include expert counseling on personalized risk reduction, peripheral vascular disease screening, stroke prevention, cholesterol, and glucose screening (please fast for four hours prior if possible), and blood pressure screening and management advice courtesy of experts from the new Columbia Hypertension Center.
If you’re living with diabetes or caring for a loved one who is, you won’t want to miss the seminar at Pryor Cashman’s Conference Room in 7 Times Square. The Cardiovascular Research Foundation’s mini-med school and the Women’s Heart Health Initiative will share valuable advice about healthy lifestyle habits and how to prevent diabetes from progressing to heart and vascular disease. Learn how to take control of your cardiovascular disease risk through diet at an informative and entertaining cooking demonstration with experts from the Columbia Hypertension Center. The event, to be held at the Milstein Family Heart Center’s Riverview Terrace, will stress the new hypertension guidelines, which emphasize that lower blood pressure is better overall. A raffle with prizes will round out the event.
Stop by the Riverview Terrace at the Milstein Family Heart Center on Valentine’s Day to give your heart a little love with all sorts of special services including aromatherapy, step classes, pet therapy, reiki, expert nutrition advice, mindfulness and stress relief, and more.
